Too Sick to Workout?
There is a standard “rule of thumb” when deciding whether or not to exercise when you’re sick.If the symptoms are above the neck, you can still exercise. If they are below, you should rest.
“Above the neck” symptoms include headache, runny or congested nose, sneezing or coughing.
“Below the neck” symptoms include body chills, stomach or abdominal pain, diarrhea, chest cold, bronchial infection or bronchitis, or body aches.
No matter where your symptoms are, you should always listen to your body. If you start to feel unwell while at the gym, be sure to stop. Pushing yourself when you are already ill is never a good idea; keep your workout at about 50 percent of your normal intensity and it may even make you feel better.
